Check a roommate before moving in

A roommate gets your address, your schedule and, on a joint lease, your credit. You are agreeing to a year with a stranger from a listing. Twenty minutes of checking beats twelve months of regret.

What matters most

Before you sign

Meet in person. See ID. Put the rent split, the bills, the deposit and the notice period in writing, even between friends. On a joint lease you are liable for the whole rent if they leave, so the check is really about that risk.

What Proofile returns

One dossier with the identity, the work history, the social footprint, the public disputes and anything that contradicts what they told you.

Check them before you meet

Enter a name, pick the right person, and read a free preview in about a minute. The full dossier is $25. They are never notified.

Common questions

Can I use this to screen a tenant?

No. Tenant screening is covered by the FCRA and needs a licensed provider and the applicant's consent. Proofile is for personal awareness only, such as choosing who you share a flat with.

What if they refuse to give a full name?

That answers the question. Anyone signing a lease with you will already be putting their legal name on it.

Do they find out?

No. Nothing is sent to them at any point.
